Cryolipolysis, which is also known as fat freezing is a relatively new technology, which was developed in 2008. It is a non-invasive procedure for non-surgical fat reduction. This technology targets fat cells beneath the skin. The skin is cooled to temperatures between -4 and -10 degrees C. This cooling of the fat cells causes lipolysis, which is the breakdown of the fat cells. The skin will not be damaged as a protective pad is used to protect the skin from the cold. 

Dieting reduces the size of the fat cells but the fat cells remain and fill up again if the diet is not maintained. Destroying the fat cells stops them from filling up again however, The remaining fat cells will fill up if you do not maintain a good diet and exercise regime.
